THE Holbeach hotel facing a review of its licence because of violent assaults and mass fights at the premises has had its licensing panel hearing adjourned to January 27.
Police and a lawyer representing The Chequers Hotel bosses agreed to an adjournment on Friday because the evidence is likely to take a day rather than the afternoon that was scheduled.
Police have logged a series of violent incidents at the pub over the last two years since husband and wife Mark and Chony Andrews took over.
Officers report a pattern of pub bosses failing to help with their inquiries – and claiming not to have seen anything – and of injured people and witnesses not coming forward.
Things came to a head on June 19 this year when two men were attacked. One was punched, kicked and stamped on before being dragged outside and dumped in an alley. The second was repeatedly punched before being “knocked out cold” with a single blow.
The Andrews have yet to tell their side of the story.
