Spalding Volleyball Club’s top team will defend their title as Cambridgeshire League champions against Newmarket on Sunday.

After winning all of their league games this season, Spalding hope to continue their lucky streak and hold their title for another year.

The two teams have a very competitive rivalry. Newmarket won the league in 2011, but were runners up to Spalding last year.

The duo last met on February 17 at Castle Sports Complex for a cup game.

In one of the closest games played so far this season, Newmarket beat Spalding 3-1 to lay down a marker ahead of the showdown.

Spalding captain Dan Showler said: “It’s the biggest game of the season.

“We’re unbeaten in the league so it’s vital that we beat them.

“It has always been between us and them at the end of the season.

“It’ll be a very good game to watch, the top game in the Cambridgeshire League this year.

“We’d love to see as many people as possible come and support us.”

Always in the title mix, Spalding have won the Cambridgeshire League three times since 2009.

The game gets under way at 7.30pm at the Castle Sports Complex this Sunday.

Spectators are welcome to come down and get behind the team in what promises to be a real cracker of a match.
