BOURNE TOWN 3 POTTON UNITED 2: John Currall struck twice as Bourne edged out struggling Potton in a lively Abbey Lawn clash on Saturday.
The midfielder netted the opener after just two minutes in the UCL Division One clash, before doubling the Wakes’ money with a second just before the break (42).
That’s how it stayed up until the 70th minute, when Nick Cooper pulled one back for Potton.
However, Tom Waumsley soon re-established Bourne’s two-goal cushion with what turned out to be the winner on 72 minutes.
Steve Thomas did immediately pull another goal back for Potton, but Darren Munton’s side held on to climb up to eighth in the standings.
Bourne boss Munton waxed lyrical about the first-half showing, describing it as one of the best he’d seen in his lengthy association with the club.
“The first half was the best 45 minutes of football that I have seen from any of the teams I have managed,” said the Wakes legend. “Their manager said he had seen nothing like it.
“Our movement and passing was a joy to watch. We could have - should have - scored more.
“At 2-0 at half-time I thought if we scored the next goal it would be four or five.
“We tired a bit in the second half and lost our tempo for a while.
“Otherwise the lads were full of energy and passion. It was brilliant.
“The movement of Tom Waumsley and Tom Caldicott up front was excellent but for me Andy Moss and Craig Rook were outstanding. They got us going in midfield and started the ball rolling.”
