WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN 1 HOLBEACH UNITED 5: John Chand has warned Holbeach’s UCL Premier Division title rivals that his table-topping side will be tough to catch after witnessing another ominous display on Saturday.
The Tigers moved six points clear at the summit thanks to goals from Tommy Treacher (2), Jonny Allen (2) and leading scorer Andrew Tidswell at Wellingborough.
It’s now seven league wins on the spin for Holbeach, who visit Boston Town tonight (7.45pm, see back page).
Chand said: “It’s going to get to the stage soon where teams will have to chase us – which is always difficult.
“I’d rather have the points on the board and that’s exactly what we’ve got.
“It was another solid show from the lads, but I thought Tommy Treacher and Andrew Tidswell were unplayable at times in attack. Tommy in particular was a stand-out performer with two great goals.”
On a heavy Dog and Duck pitch, the Tigers eased to a double over the struggling Doughboys. Much of the damage was done in the first half, as Holbeach applied plenty of early pressure. The opener arrived on seven minutes, with Treacher sitting a defender down and firing home after good work from strike partner Tidswell.
A trademark Tidswell free kick was then saved by the home keeper, before a Mitch Griffiths cross allowed Treacher to bury his second goal on 19 minutes.
The goal of the game arrived two minutes later, with Andrew Tidswell lobbing home a stunner from fully 40 yards. That’s his 23rd goal of a productive season.
Not done there, Holbeach make it 4-0 just past the half-hour mark when Tidswell crossed forAllen to head in.
Keeper Michael Emery was forced to make a save before the break, while at the other end Andy Toyne saw an effort stopped.
Wellingborough’s Jason Taylor marked his debut with a neat back-hell on 56 minutes, but that only served to motivate the Tigers.
They duly rounded off another top showing with a fifth goal seven minutes from time, Allen grabbing his second after a Craig Parker assist.
