SPALDING RFC U/13s 27 SLEAFORD RFC U/13s 5: A STORMING second half showing has put Town’s youngsters on the verge of the NLD final.
In the first leg of this last four clash, Sleaford went ahead early on with an unconverted score in the corner.
From the restart, Spalding began to assert themselves with outstanding contributions from JJ Faulkner and man-of-the-match Alex Worth, as Corey Lewis was able to break two tackles and force his way over for an unconverted try – taking his personal tally to over 100 for the season.
The second half saw Town taking charge of the game, with an excellent penalty from Oliver Johnson setting up a lineout on the Sleaford five metre line which resulted in a series of scrums that saw Worth crash over.
Another try came when Mark Hendy was stopped inches short of the line, with Lewis following up well to grab his second try.
Spalding were soon threatening again and an excellent catch and drive from William Fletcher and Harry Wilkinson-Roberts created the opportunity for Faulkner to force his way over for another unconverted try.
There was still time for the try of the game, as Lewis intercepted the ball and raced the length of the field to score under the posts – adding the conversion himself to secure a 22-point advantage ahead of the return leg.
