THE best two Division Three breaks of the season were pocketed last week in a vintage round of Spalding and District Snooker League fixtures.
Jason Bates (O70) registered the top score with a cracking 68 for Bourne SC A in their 4-2 loss at Services A. But it was an impressive 59 from Holbeach B scratch player Phil Coaten that caught the eye.
His team were also on the receiving end of a 4-2 defeat, in a game that saw Consti E’s Linday Porter (scr) lose after going in off the black at the death.
In the top flight, Adam Barwell’s (O42) 41 break was the best on offer. His Long Sutton A side were beaten 4-2 on their own baize by second-placed Donington A, though.
They are five points behind leaders Donington C, who took four points from a tight tussle with Services C. Kev Fitter (O14) did manage a 25 break for the Spalding side.
The most incident-packed game saw BSC A beat Tulips A 4-2, as both Kieran Bowman (O14) and Mark Wilkinson (O7) made 27 clearances.
Meanwhile, the top two in Division Two were both humbled. Alan Nichols’ (R21) crucial frame win helped Gosberton B dispatch leaders Long Sutton D 4-2, while Pyramid C took the scalp of second-placed Holbeach D by the same score.
Tim Nash’s (O28) 38 break for Services B was the best at this level, while Holbeach C ace Mark Gregory (O14) trousered scores of 32 and 28.
Gregory’s side were beaten 4-2 at Boundary B, for whom Dan Smith (O14) reeled off a 22 clearance.
Division Four is shaping up really nicely, with the top six covered by just six points.
Pyramid B extended their lead to four points with a 4-2 victory over second-placed Consti J, despite Stewart Davies (O14) making a 25 break.
Behind them, Donington B stay third after a tight 4-2 triumph over Pyramid E and Whittlesey D won 5-1 at Bourne SC B to stay in the promotion picture.
