Phil Barnes cracked an unbeaten 52 to guide Long Sutton Sunday 2nd to a four-wicket win over rivals Spalding Sunday 2nd in Rutland League Division Seven.
Visitors Town batted first at Paradise Field and racked up 144-8 from their 45 overs.
Jimmy Hook (17 from 14 balls), 12-year old George Senior (23), Ben Edwards (32) and Tyler Wright (37) made most of the runs, with Jimmy Wright (3-39) the pick of the Sutton bowlers.
Rick Dale (3-32) struck with the first ball of Sutton’s reply as they stumbled to 13-2, but an assured knock from Alex Canham (30) steadied the ship.
An immaculate half-century from Barnes followed, as he and Dan Oldfield (11no) got the hosts over the line.
Spalding skipper Jimmy Clarke said: “It was a good game – and with so many youngsters on show it was a good advert for local cricket.
“Phil played a crucial innings and that was the difference to the match.
“It was pleasing that the youngsters built a strong platform which, for once, we could not push on from.”
