A CONCERNED member of the public raised the alarm about a drink-driver after seeing him behind the wheel with a can in his hand.
Aleksandrs Skubilins (23), of Winsover Road, Spalding, was found to be twice the drink-drive limit when police found the car in Westlode Street.
At Spalding Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, he was disqualified from driving for 17 months and ordered to pay a £185 fine, £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
Rebecca Ritson, prosecuting, said Skubilins was given a number of attempts to give a breath sample at the roadside but failed.
He eventually gave a sample at the police station, which read 71 microgrammes – the legal limit is 35.
Carrie Simson, defending, said Skubilins disputed that he was drinking while driving, but accepted he was over the limit.
She told the court he had been drinking at a friends house the night before.
She added: “He had drunk a small amount in the morning and did not realise the impact that would have on him.”
