FOOTBALL: Delight for Deeping as Tigers and Tulips tumble

DEEPING Rangers came from behind to clinch a stunning 4-3 victory at Newport Pagnell on Saturday, while Holbeach United were handed a 3-0 home reverse by Wellingborough Town and Spalding United lost 4-2 at Kempston Rovers.

Despite trailing 1-0 and 2-1, brilliant braces from strikers Scott Ginty and Josh Moreman fired Tuncay Korkmaz’s Deeping to a second successive UCL Premier Division win.

There wasn’t such good news for Holbeach and Spalding, though.

The third-placed Tigers were humbled 3-0 at Carter’s Park by the resolute Doughboys. Strikes from Dan Surridge, Mark Redding and Wayne Richardson’s stunning solo effort sunk below-par Holbeach, who tasted defeat for the first time since a 1-0 Boxing Day beating at King’s Lynn.

It was a similar story for the Tulips, as Pat Rayment suffered a second successive loss as boss. Hosts Kempston roared into a 4-0 lead before late consolation strikes from Ryan O’Loughlin and Danny French.

Down in UCL Division One, Bourne Town – who host Holbeach in the Lincs FA Senior Trophy semi-final on Tuesday (7.45pm) – picked up an excellent 2-1 triumph at Northampton ON Chenecks.

Stuart Lambie put the Wakes ahead, before Alex Brockbank fired a dramatic late winner from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere, Pinchbeck United and Moulton Harrox returned to winning ways in the Peterborough and District League Premier Division.

Goals from Ashley Wilson, Ian Dunn, Keith Gray and Lee Marshall earned Pinchbeck a 4-0 win at Uppingham, while Steve Mastin’s strike helped Harrox sink Netherton United.

See Tuesday’s Lincolnshire Free Press for more on the weekend football.
