With just six rounds of Spalding and District League fixtures left to play, Long Sutton B have opened up a potentially pivotal 23-point lead in Division One.

The long-term leaders defeated struggling club mates Long Sutton D 5-1 to extend their ample advantage, as Carl Parnell (O42) reeled off a 42 break.

While the result is huge for Sutton B, it sends the club’s D side into a perilous position in the bottom two.

Holbeach D are now looking the most likely team to overhaul the top-flight table-toppers, having gone second with a 5-1 win of their own over Crowland C.

Wins for Mick Pearl (O14), Ian Woodberry (R14), Ashley Bunn (R7) and Richard Lowe (scr) were key for Holbeach, who do have two games in hand on Sutton B.

Tulips B’s hopes of the title took a massive hit though, as they were beaten 5-1 by Long Sutton A on their own table.

Sutton’s Stuart Atkin (O42) starred with breaks of 27 and 25 in the final frame.

Perhaps the best game in Division One came at the bottom, as Tulips A continued their stunning form with a 4-2 success at defending champions Pyramid C.

Jason Green (O56) made a super 60 break for the Bourne side, but a fabulous 58 from Tulips ace Bren Bowman (O63) helped his team reel off a seventh win in eight games.

Elsewhere, the top four in Division Two all won well to keep their hopes of silverware and promotion alive.

Leaders Boundary B stay three clear after defeating friendly foes Boundary A 5-1, with Dan Smith (O14) pocketing a 28 break.

Second-placed Holbeach C had a 5-1 win of their own over Consti H, but saw Services A move within three points of them after they prevailed 6-0 at Consti I.

Services C are fourth after their 5-1 win over Pyramd D, with a 22 clearance from Geoff Hemsil (R21) the highlight.

There was a shock in Division Three as Bourne SC A slumped to only their third loss of the season. Second-placed Whittlesey C beat them 4-2, despite a 62 break from Mark Gray (O98) and Ian Graham’s (O84) 36 clearance, to move within eight points of the summit.

Third-placed Crowland B went down 4-2 against fourth-placed Whittlesey B, despite a 38 break from Derek Tinkler (O14). Pawel Skutela (R14) nailed a 22 clearance for Whittlesey.

Meanwhile, Long Sutton C moved within six points of the top two in Division Four with a 4-2 win over Consti D. A black-ball win from Gavin Shinkin (R14) was key for the promotion-chasing side.
