TULIPS: Spalding pull off Kirk capture

Exciting winger Tyrone Kirk has become the latest big-name signing for Spalding United.

Tulips chief Pat Rayment completed a move for the former Quorn and Stamford ace on Thursday, having lost attackers TJ Nightingale and Tom James to Grantham Town and Deeping Rangers respectively this week.

Kirk, who has just been released from his contract by UCL Premier Division side Quorn, follows recent recruits Lee Beeson, Michael Jacklin, Michael Duggan and Jamie Thurlbourne to the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

And Rayment reckons his “mercurial talent” will help Spalding pile the pressure on title rivals Holbeach United and St Ives Town.

He said: “Tyrone will certainly give us more attacking flair and will help us put teams on the back foot.

“We’ve got ten weeks of the season left and he could prove to be a massive addition for us.

“Let’s be honest, it’s an uphill task for us to win the title from here. But signing the likes of Tyrone will help us win more games and that’ll put pressure on the top two.

“The lad is a mercurial talent, he certainly could play at Football League standard if he wanted to. I hope he enjoys his stay with us and maybe we’ll convince him to stay beyond this season.

“The ultimate aim for the season is promotion – and he’s the kind of player that would be well at home in the league above.”

Rayment also confirmed that he’s monitoring Michael Frew’s situation at Lowestoft Town as he eyes-up a loan move for the contracted attacker, who has fallen out of favour with his club.

Spalding host Cogenhoe United tomorrow (Saturday) in the UCL League Cup second round.
