Spalding Rugby Club played host to international side Cyprus last weekend.
The Cyprus Rugby Federation used the club’s facilities for a training session for UK-based players, including Town’s very own Alex Ioannou, in preparation for the upcoming internationals, including games against Hungary and Bulgaria this Spring.
A number of the Cyprus squad members spent time after the training session to meet with the club’s younger players for pictures and autographs.
Kevin Wand, development officer for Spalding Rugby Club, said: “It was great to have players from the Cyprus squad down here training and it goes to show that, as a club, we can attract international squads here to use our facilities.
“It was also fantastic for our younger players to watch them train and meet some of the squad. It’s a great incentive for our younger players to see Alex train with an international squad and think it could be them one day.”
For any parents with a child interested in playing rugby, feel free to bring them down to the club’s training ground at the Memorial Field, opposite Spalding Grammar school, at 10.30am on Sunday mornings.
