TIGERS A got their hands on the Holbeach and District League’s Caley Cup after beating arch-rivals New Saracen’s Head C in a heavyweight final.

The quartet of Dave Piccaver, Gary Mace, John Walker and Terry Crane sealed an emphatic 2-0 win over Mark Horspool, Duncan Hunt, Pete Richardson and Phil Povey to take the crown.

Played on home territory at Tigers Social Club, the eventual winners saw off Golden Lion 2-0 in the last eight, before edging past Rose and Crown A 2-1 in the semi-finals.

New Saracen’s Head had a tough opener against Five Bells C but prevailed 2-1, before eliminating Tigers A’s second string 2-0.

Although he finished on the losing team in the final, Mark Horspool proved to be the competition’s star performer, throwing two 180s in NSH C’s run to the final.

• THERE looks to be no stopping New Saracen’s Head in Spalding and District Ladies’ Darts League as they went six points clear at the top of Division One.

In the big game of the week, second-placed Blue Bell A visited the leaders – but they were blown away 13-5 and subsequently slip to fourth.

It’s now a flawless eight wins out of eight from NSH, who saw Dawn MacTavish nail a pair of 140s.

Horse and Groom A and Riverside are now level-pegging in second and third – but neither did their title chances any good as they drew 9-9 in a tight tussle.

It took a 2-1 triumph from Glynnes Bannock and Linda Middleton to earn hosts Groom a share of the spoils in a match that saw Julie Fines notch a 140.

The league’s only 180 came in Division Two. Horse and Groom B’s Joy Silver hit the maximum, but she didn’t end up on the losing side, as Lake Ross took the spoils 10-8.

There was something of a shock for leaders Lincoln Arms, as they could only manage a 9-9 draw with lowly Golden Lion.

• 180s were the order of the day in Spalding and District League Division One.

Ash Allen notched a maximum as Lamb and Flag A beat Tydd Gote 5-4, while Granary’s Claire Ball and Dan Carnell both peppered the treble 20 in their sides’ 6-3 home loss to leaders New Saracen’s Head C.

Three 180s also came in Lamb and Flag B’s 6-3 success over Rose and Crown B, with K Wilson, M Allen and D McInerney on target.
