Ambitious Spalding United have snapped up talented midfielder Claudio Hoban from crisis club Histon.
Pat Rayment swooped for the pacy left winger on the advice of former boss Dennis Greene, who departed the cash-strapped Blue Square Bet North side on Thursday.
The Tulips’ chief admits the club really pushed the boast out to land Hoban, who played briefly for Holbeach United the season before last.
He said: “I received a glowing reference from Dennis, so we really went all out to get him.
“He’s a player that can clearly operate much higher that the UCL Premier Division and he’ll give us some much-needed competition in wide areas.”
It’s not all good news for Spalding though, with skipper Lee Canoville set to be ruled out for up to a month with a broken hand.
The defender broke two bones in his hand in Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Deeping Rangers – a game that marked his comeback from a lengthy absence through injury.
Keeper Alex Street is fit to join up with the squad in tomorrow’s FA Vase third round tie at Sutton Town – but there are already worries that the clash will be postponed.
A pitch inspection is likely to take place tomorrow morning at 11am to determine if the clash will go ahead.
