The final of Spalding and District Table Tennis League’s Moulton Shield will be between Bladerunners and JDM Allsorts after both won through to the December 12 showpiece.
Despite all four semi-finalists coming from the top flight, the winners went through for the loss of just one end between them in their 5–0 victories.
Main highlight was James Gibson pushing his father David of Blades to a third end before losing on a deuce.
With so much of Division One occupied, the only league matches came from the lower division.
Dark Knights reinforced their place at the top with a 3-2 win over Insidious. Richard Matthews took two for the Knights, but they needed the doubles to seal the match. Clive Shardlow and Gary Simpson shared the points for the losers.
Castle Sports moved into second with a 4-1 victory against Ha’st. Mike Mulligan scored a first double for the winners, but was pushed to come from behind by Stewart Duffill, who closed the night with his team’s point.
In so doing he became the third player this season to play 200 points in his singles. Nobody reached this landmark at all last season.
l Members are reminded that next week (November 28) sees the annual Val Mackey doubles event.
l The draws have been made for rounds one and two of both the Marylands and Guardian competitions, which are scheduled for the new year. Team captains should note which dates they have free for rearranging matches.
