YOU don’t have to be an experienced opera-goer to revel in the delights of world-class productions from Salzburg screened as encore live performances this month at the South Holland Centre.
On Monday Mozart’s Don Giovanni exploded on to the screen as no-one’s seen it before, in modern dress with all the action happening in a wood, and with the wicked womaniser himself fatally wounded in the first few minutes.
Here in Spalding we watched and wondered at Claus Guth’s revolutionary re-working of the plot, heard voices that turned the familiar arias into liquid gold, and experienced the buzz of being part of the audience at the Salzburg festival in 2008.
This coming Monday you have the opportunity of watching another Mozart favourite The Magic Flute, this time from this year’s Salzburg Festival recorded only this week.
The lightness and humour of the plot is dignified by the composer’s genius.
The screening starts at 6pm. Don’t miss it.
