TEENAGE Spalding Town bowler Jordan Philpott has won his first major bowls title.

The 14-year-old enjoyed the stand-out moment of his fledgling career on Sunday, winning the under-18 EBA singles title at Sibsey.

In his first year of entering the competition, Philpott defeated a much more experienced bowler in Sam Ashton, who could not handle the outstanding bowling of Philpott once his early nerves settled.

Trailing by six shots at one point, he picked up a nice four shots followed by a fine three to take the lead.

The Spalding talent never looked back once he hit the front and won by an emphatic 21 shots to 13 in a fine display of top drawer bowling.

The success sets Philpott up for his maiden major team final at Skegness on Saturday.

There, he hopes to win the Ron Kitchen trophy along with his Spalding Town team-mates.

Town members Betty Deaton and Tracy Philpott will also be representing Lincolnshire at the EBF Championships at Skegness at the end of this month.

Deaton is in the Senior Singles, while Tracy Philpott – along with brother Eamonn Cherry and son Ashley Caress of Ayscoughfee Bowls Club – will be doing battle for the coveted Marie Denny Trophy.
