A GOSBERTON woman involved in a vicious baseball bat attack on her former husband has been jailed for six years.

Alison Lakin drove Julian Staff to an isolated beet stand in Beech Lane, Gosberton, where her new partner Greig Parkin attacked him.

Lakin then tried to blame the assault on an innocent man, telling police he was responsible.

And, after Parkin later threatened Mr Staff, she again lied to police.

Lakin (36), of Gosberton Bank, denied wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on December 12, 2011 and two charges of perverting the course of justice. She was found guilty following a trial at Lincoln Crown Court.

Judge Michael Heath said: “When Mr Staff arrived at the beet stand he was removed from the car and beaten about the head with the baseball bat. You lured Mr Staff there. You were equally as guilty as the man who wielded the baseball bat.

“These offences are so serious that I cannot impose anything other than a custodial sentence.”

Joanna Staples, defending, said Lakin is the main carer for her children and cares for her mother. She urged the judge to keep the sentence as short as possible.

Parkin (32), who was previously living at a bail address in Derbyshire, was jailed for nine years at an earlier hearing. He denied charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm on December 12, 2011 and witness intimidation but was convicted after a trial.

Jonathon Dee, prosecuting, told the jury Lakin contacted Mr Staff saying they needed to talk and took him to the beet stand in her car.

Mr Dee said: “Waiting at this out of the way location was Parkin with a baseball bat. He opened the car door, grabbed Mr Staff and attacked him with the bat.

“Parkin hit Mr Staff several times to the head.”

Afterwards Lakin drove Parkin from the scene, leaving Mr Staff to make his own way home. His parents called the emergency services and he was taken to hospital.

Mr Staff told the jury: “I got dragged out of the car. I saw the person who dragged me out. It was Greig Parkin.

“I got hit with a baseball bat on the face. The blows were very hard. It made me go dizzy. Alison didn’t say anything while this was happening. At the time I didn’t know what it was about.

“It stopped when he got in the car and they drove off. I was bleeding all over.”

Twelve days later Parkin and another unidentified man, both wearing balaclavas, burst into Mr Staff’s home and threatened him with an axe.

During the trial the couple claimed they were not involved in the attack on Mr Staff.
