HAVING entertained a full pub on Saturday night, day two of the Beer Fest Weekend at The Ship Inn, Pinchbeck, The Dead Rabbits proved their worth as only one of two UK tribute bands to the mighty Pogues writes LIZ MCMURRAY.
The atmosphere at the pub was fantastic and a brave few got up to show off their Irish jig moves. Belting out classics such as Sally MacLennane, A Pair of Brown Eyes and Dirty Old Town the audience were soon singing along. The authentic 8 piece band created a lovely Irish feel and included Michael Houlihan on whistle, Lin Griffin playing accordian and Steve Donovan on Banjo.
Keep an eye out for their return to The Ship in December when this fantastic band are hoping to return to entertain with their rendition of the classic seasonal hit Fairytale of New York, amongst others. For more information visit www.thedeadrabbits.com.
The final day of the festival saw the rain stay away for the traditional Tug of War, the eventual winners being a team of strapping lads from Mason Bros Transport, Boston with The Fishermans Arms, Pode Hole holding on to second place.
There was plenty for all the family to do, facepainting, a bouncy castle and assault course, barbecue and lots of beers available to try, although, I for one will not be trying the Chocolate Chilli Ale again, definitely an acquired taste.
Peterborough’s Glorious One Eyed Cats rocked their way through the afternoon playing classics and entertaining the crowds, a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and one to look out for next year.
