Spalding 3rd (63-4) beat Welby 2nd (62-9): Captain Rick Dale’s man of the match display helped Spalding 3rd strengthen their position at the top of Division Three in South Lincs and Border League.

He took 5-15 off ten overs, including four maidens.

Dale put Welby in to bat and made an immediate impact – taking a wicket with the fifth ball of his first over.

Backed by the other opening bowler Chris Green (2-7) they made steady inroads into Welby’s batting line-up.

Huw Sharman (2-13) picked up both of his wickets in his fourth over, but Spalding were unable to get the final wicket and Welby finished on 62-9 in their 45 overs.

Richard Dodd batted for the whole Welby innings for 21 runs, extras contributing the next highest score of 19.

Spalding’s batsmen started their innings on a drying wicket but Sharman played on to the second ball of the first over which bought in-form Jake Morton (20no) to the crease. Along with young Matt Powell (22), he took the game away from Welby.

Despite losing four wickets Spalding reached the required target in the 21st over, Morton hitting the winning runs.

l Lincs ECB Premier League: In another rain-affected round of fixtures, Bourne looked set for victory at Grimsby before the match was called off.

Carl Wilson and Pete Morgan batted them into a good position at 218-7 and Xante Xipu took four wickets to help reduce the home side to 118 -6 before rain stopped play.
