Bourne Town defender Andrew Moss admits his side need to be fully focused on beating Woodford United on Saturday, with a top-ten finish at stake.
The Wakes blew a golden chance of securing tenth place after a 2-1 defeat to the Reds at Abbey Lawn on Saturday when Rafa Mazzarella’s side failed to show their commitment to the task.
In fact, the home side didn’t really show any appetite for the task in hand until they went two goals down and when Rafa the gaffer made three substitutions within 15 second-half minutes.
Moss said: “We were a bit disappointed with the game because throughout the season, we’ve been pretty good.
“We had a good run after Christmas but we struggled to create too much (against Woodford) and a few mistakes after half time cost us.
“The big problem is that we’re looking towards the end of the season but the way the fixtures have fallen, we’ve got Woodford again on Saturday and it’s a chance to bounce back and show that we’re better than we were last Saturday.”
Mazzarella kept the players out after the full time whistle went last Saturday for an inquest into their below-par performance that left the Wakes boss searching for answers.
“I think we gifted them the first goal and never really recovered after that,” Mazzarella said.
“We never looked like scoring before their second goal went in but, for me personally, it’s a learning curve when players are seeing out the season.”
Mazzarella may turn to youngster Josh Hales to spark Bourne into attack, but the manager is still keen to use him sparingly.
“Josh still has a lot to prove, so we’re not going to overplay him,” Mazzarella said.
