Preparing Spalding for In Bloom judges

A regular column by Jan Whitbourn of Tulip Radio.

They are doing it to present the town in the best possible light for East Midlands in Bloom competition judges due to visit between July 13 and 17.

Last year all Spalding in Bloom committee members as well as countless volunteers pitched in, and for the first time in many years we received a Gold award, to the relief and delight of many. It’s the aim this year to repeat that success.

To that aim, committee members Jan Whitbourn and Angela Newton have asked all shops within the town to maintain their premises in as pristine a condition as possible and also to keep floral themed displays where possible in their windows.

The big clean up will continue in conjunction with Spalding & District Chamber of Trade, and floral baskets will shortly be seen around town.

Additionally, Jan Whitbourn is asking groups or businesses to crochet, embroider or knit Tulip-themed displays incorporating the names of the group or business.

The displays will be exhibited in town during judging, and then hang in South Holland Centre. Contact Jan (01775 712400) for a free canvas for your display.

Contact town centre manager Dennis Hannant to volunteer for the next town clean up.
