LONGSTANDING school records were smashed at University Academy Holbeach’s Sports Day as more students than ever before took part, inspired by the UK Olympics.
Conor Price broke the 1959 year nine boys’ record for the 200m sprint, the year ten Balmoral house girls’ team beat the 4 x 100m relay record and the year ten girls’ high jump record set in 2000 was equalled in the morning field events.
The weather stayed fine all day for athletes and audience of pupils and parents.
A school spokesman said: “More pupils participated in sports day this year than in previous years.
“The Olympics in the UK this year and Academy events that have promoted sport have all inspired pupils to undertake some of the Olympic Values – courage, determination, friendship, respect, and excellence.”
Final results will be presented in the end of term assembly.
