Long Sutton U/12s (64-4) lost to Spalding U/11s (65-2) by eight wickets: SPALDING’S young guns stormed to a derby win in their opening county cup clash.
A fine all-round display from skipper Patrick Harrington was the catalyst for Town’s success, with the all-rounder taking 2-4 with the ball and making an unbeaten 33 as opening batsman.
Town started steadily, with Harrington bowling Sutton captain J Coote and Ray Mumby removing C John.
A good partnership by Raj Sangha (18) and Carr (9) boosted Sutton’s tally, although Jack Sawyer got rid of the latter before they completed their 20 overs on 64-4.
Harrington batting aggressively in reply, making fine 33 to leave Town on the edge of victory.
They eventually reached their target in the 13th over, with Ethan Lawrence hitting the winning runs.
Spalding coach Malc Mumby said: “This was an impressive performance which shows how much effort the lads have put in throughout the winter.
“It will certainly give us plenty of confidence to go through the season.”
Town now entertain Billingborough in the second round.
