BOURNE teenager Sian Botteley bagged a brace of gold medals at the UK School Games.

The 15-year-old, who rides for Bourne Wheelers and the East Midlands team, also picked up a bronze at the event held at the Olympic Park in London.

Up against the best 52 riders from the around the country, she joined her East Midlands team-mates for three days of intense racing – which included two days of road events before a day indoors in front of 3,500 spectators.

“It was brilliant to see so many people there,” said the teen ace. “Racing at the Olympic Velodrome was a great experience and finding that we had won the on track was so unexpected.

“The East Midlands have never won on the track.”

Botteley’s best individual showings came in the head-to-head events with a magnificent spell of riding seeing her claim two wins and a third place.

The Bourne racer then came into her own in the 4.5 mile team time trial, as East Midlands secured victory by 1.5 seconds – clinching the team third overall in the road section.

She then helped the East Midlands’ quartet take overall gold indoors with a finishes of fourth and tenth.
