SPALDING Athletic under-8s completed their first-ever football season on Saturday.

Among the crop of players making their mark over the year, a number look to have very bright futures.

Keeper Jasper Ansell has made a number of awesome saves throughout the campaign and has been very consistent, while Mason Hibbert-Rankin improved markedly as the season progressed and developed into a very solid defender or midfielder.

Braidon Coupland proved himself to be a super tackler who always gives his all, with Amelia Richardson showing lots of energy and speed – as well as chipping in with a few goals.

Jade Lilley scored her first goal for the club on Saturday and has displayed great attitude and commitment, while Charlie Earth scored lots of goals and also proved to be a good team player.

Another with a great attitude is Luke Davies, who kept smiling despite missing the second half of the season due to illness.

Proud coach Stewart England said: “This season was the players’ first involvement in football and have done very well. Since the start of the season the children have improved so much, which is a credit to them to coming to training every week.”

Spalding are now looking for players in this age group to join their team. Children need to be in year three at school.

Contact Stewart via email at stewart_spaldingathletic@mail.com or call 07507 891197 for more information.

The lads train on Wednesday evenings (6pm-7.30pm) at Leaveslake Drove, West Pinchbeck.

There is no training May 2, but sessions resume on May 9.
