AARON Williamson was in the wars as he endured a disappointing weekend at Donington Park in the second meeting of the AirAsia Renault Clio Cup.
The 19-year-old from Holbeach Drove had a positive start to the weekend with qualifying lap times of 1.18.053mins and 1.18.093mins putting him sixth on the grid for both races.
With race one under way, Williamson made a good start but got squeezed going through Hollywood for the first time and dropped down to eighth, before an ill timed challenge from behind on lap five resulted in contact and a broken track rod, which ended his race.
A great start in race two saw the Finesse Motorsport ace move up into fourth place by turn one, but disaster struck again at Hollywood with his car damaged and pushed wide after contact from behind again.
Pushed down to 24th with 12 laps to go, the teen drove remarkably to take the chequered flag in a solid 14th position.
Williamson said: “Luck wasn’t on my side this weekend. I’ve only managed to get seven championship points which is a bit disappointing, but I’m really pleased with my pace. So, looking on the positive side, I know I can compete well at this level.”
Rounds five and six will take place this weekend at the Thruxton circuit.
