Quadring Fen grass track rider Tom Meakins bids for glory in the International Lincolnshire Poacher on Sunday.
Meakins finished second in the International Junior Poacher as a 12-year-old in 2000, but would love to go one better this time around.
The event, which takes place at Thorpe St Peter near Skegness, has been won by international speedway riders such as Joe Screen, Kelvin Tatum and Paul Hurry and Meakins would love to add his name to the illustrious honours board.
He has certainly progressed from that runners-up spot he achieved 14 years ago, which came on a motorbike built in a shed for less than £100.
He has become one of the top riders in his class and has won numerous trophies in the 500cc class, riding Jawa and Godden machines.
Sunday’s action, which takes place on Britain’s only recognised 1000m track, features European champion Theo Pijper of Holland. Action gets under way at 1pm.
