Deeping St Nicholas farmer and conservationist Nicholas Watts says barn owls are having their most successful year in three decades.
Nicholas has erected 17 barn owl boxes at Vine House Farm and monitors their success each year.
He says the last two years have been very challenging for them with a shortage of their main source of food – voles.
However, this year he has a record 13 boxes being occupied with a brood, with three pairs now on to their second brood – one of which has ten eggs, the most ever recorded.
Nicholas, worked tirelessly over 30 years to create the right habitat for wildlife on his land, attributes their success to the warm weather, which has resulted in a good breeding season for voles.
